[ so there's a newly formed hole in the moon. not that maya can see it, because kurain village is underground, hidden away from the rest of no man's land. at least, for the moment. ]
[ the small village of spirit mediums exists under a mountain, secluded and hidden. the lights are artificial, mostly torches, the food is scarce, but there is food and water. somehow, they'd managed to come across a tiny underground cave, uninhabited by sandworms, with a natural source of water, and they'd made a home there. no one ever ventured to the top. no one ever came in. why would they? how could they find this place? ]
[ except someone did find this place. a man, heavily injured, in tattered clothing, is in their makeshift graveyard in the dead of night. and maya fey comes across this --- frankly, kind of terrifying -- man with a broken body, destroyed red coat, barely keeping himself upright ]
[ anyone else in the village would have ran away. probably, she should have. it's an outsider, and outsiders are Bad with a capital b. furthermore, this man looks more like a monster than a man. ]

[ it's not so much that part that's unbelievable. it's that livio got wolfwood, vash's partner, killed. he died for livio. because of livio. and yet, vash chose to forgive livio and take him along. ]
[ he didn't want wolfwood's sacrifice to go to waste, he'd said. and that much livio could agree with, though he never understood how vash could consent to drive with him. let alone fall asleep while he's driving. ]
[ but livio's resolved to see things through with vash until the end, no matter what that end may be. and vash probably doesn't know it yet, but he has livio's undying loyalty for his act of forgiveness. and perhaps.... a little something else. ]
[ something that shouldn't be there ]
[ at this point, livio's defeated elendira. now they've got to reach their next destination, where knives might supposedly be. and livio's taken the wheel again, of course, because vash can't drive. ]
